Description

The George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering is the oldest and second largest department in the College of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The school offers degree programs in mechanical engineering and nuclear and radiological engineering that are accredited by ABET.

At Georgia Tech, we believe the best solutions to society’s most pressing challenges arise from shared knowledge across multiple fields of research. Our exceptional faculty, students, and researchers innovate at the intersection of disciplines to advance new frontiers in science and technology.

Teams from our six colleges, 10 interdisciplinary research institutes, the Georgia Tech Research Institute, Enterprise Innovation Institute, and hundreds of research labs and centers, including the Center for Advanced Brain Imaging (CABI), the Global Center for Medical Innovation (GCMI), the Novelis Innovation Hub, and the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Technology Center work side by side to transform ideas into tangible solutions for our partners.

These results are reflected in Georgia Tech’s consistent ranking as a top research university. In 2021, we reached a milestone of more than $1 billion in new sponsored activity, making it possible to tackle even more critical challenges in computing, engineering, design, the sciences, liberal arts, and business. And we continue to blaze new trails with initiatives in AI, quantum computing, hypersonics, and other areas.
