Taghleef, Gerosa win 2022 Sustainability Award for recyclable-packaging innovation

Taghleef Industries and Gerosa Group were jointly honored yesterday with a 2022 Sustainability Award in the Recyclable Packaging Category for Pre-Commercialized Innovations for their BOPP high-barrier, 4-side-sealed sachet. The award was bestowed at the Innovation Horizon Conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands, last night.

The packaging solution aims to replace multi-material structures made of PET/Alu/PE or PET/met-PET/PE in applications such as dry powder products, dressings or sauces.

The innovative structure has important advantages in terms of recyclability and unit weight reduction, providing good performances in terms of product protection, thanks to the use of EXTENDO® XZMX along with a final PP-based design that offers excellent performing sealing properties and tear propagation for convenient packaging opening. The PP based structure is designed to meet Minimum Recyclability Criteria which is part of the German Packaging Law VerpackG (Verpackungsgesetz – Packaging Act).

This innovation was selected among the Pre-Commercialized proposals, which include solutions covering the most important areas of emerging innovations entering the market in years to come. In fact, Taghleef and Gerosa’s project is expected to be launched in 2023 at the end of the validation program in cooperation with some selected customers.

Taghleef Industries is supporting the preservation of material through a portfolio that allows the reDESIGN(TM) of traditional multi-material structures which would not fit the recyclability requirements as part of the services offered through its Dynamic Cycle(TM) approach. Dynamic Cycle is Ti's set of initiatives aimed to address sustainability issues within and for its stakeholders, with the goal of contributing to the quality of life for generations to come.
