Changing Our Image Now (COIN) and Procter & Gamble (P&G) Prepares Bluffton, SC Students for Real-world Success

Since 2021, Changing Our Image Now (COIN) has been working in partnership with Research and Development (R&D) giant Procter & Gamble to launch the careers of aspiring and scientifically-minded students.

Jamie Pinckney is just one of the students participating in the P&G program through COIN over the last year. Pinckney has just completed his first year at the Technical College of the Low Country (TCL) where he is working toward an Associate of Science Degree, and through his hard work and dedication, he has obtained a summer internship in the P&G program.

"I have seen first-hand the quality young adults coming from the COIN program. COIN is making a meaningful impact on the lives and job readiness of their participants, and I will gladly continue to partner with COIN to help find the next generation of R&D talent for P&G," said Thinh Ha, R&D Vice President, Procter & Gamble.

The hope is that students like Pinckney will further demonstrate and develop their skills and be offered a full-time position at the end of their internship.

Through the support of COIN, Pinckney and his parents recently visited P&G in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had the opportunity to understand the work he would be responsible for, the researcher career opportunities and met with managers and peers that he will be working with. Pinckney will begin his summer internship this month.

COIN currently has three core programs including the Procter & Gamble opportunity. Through Young Men’s Group, students at Hilton Head High School and in the Bluffton, SC community work with COIN coaches to prepare them for personal and professional life. Based on career aspirations, COIN’s Young Men’s Group works with local and non-local industries to find sustaining career opportunities.
