Ted Lightfoot

Ted Lightfoot LLC

In thirty-five years with DuPont, Ted worked with photographic film, fluoropolymer films, display films and coatings, as well as products that remain proprietary. His experience in R&D, plant support, as a Six Sigma Black Belt for Growth, and application development (helping customers develop processes and structured products using our products) gives him a balanced perspective on how manufacturing process (from film casting, to coating and drying, along with other downstream processes) affect product properties.

Ted received his BSE in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University and his MS and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.  While working in the photographic field, he became the first US citizen to be named an Industrial Fellow at the University of Minnesota Coating Fundamentals Program and served on the AIChE Area 1k (Fluid Mechanics of Thin Film Coating) Steering team.  He became a founding director of the International Society for Coating Science and Technology (serving in numerous capacities including Symposium Chair and President of the society).  He currently chairs the Scientific Advisory Committee of the ISCST.  While supporting extrusion lamination of fluoro-polymer films, he became the chapter editor for film extrusion and laminating defects for the TAPPI Web and Roll Defects Terminology 2nd Ed., and Ultimate Web and Roll Troubleshooting Guide.  He co-authored the chapter on “Coating Processes” in the current Kirk Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology.  Ted was involved in teaching courses inside DuPont for thirty years and has taught externally through AIMCAL since 2007.
