Overview:
The AIMCAL Applied Web Handling Conference is open to both members and non-members of AIMCAL. This conference brings together top professionals in the industry for three days of industry presentations and business networking opportunities. The meeting combines strong industry programming with a relaxed, informal atmosphere for renewing old relationships and making new ones.
The agenda for the conference contains papers detailing technologies and applied research, current or future, that will directly improve productivity and/or reduce waste generation in web handling processes. Exceptional and innovative web handling techniques, equipment, design, materials and process improvements are the core subject matter for the conference. The target audience is technical professionals within engineering, quality and production control functions involving web handling and converting.
Unique to this conference is the merging of noted independent web handling consultants with prominent industry leaders from production organizations. The conference program was organized through AIMCAL’s Web Handling Committee, chaired by David Rumson, Dienes Corporation and Ron Schmidt, Maxcess International. The committee was assisted by top web handling consultants including Dr. David Roisum of Finishing Technologies, Inc., Timothy J. Walker of TJWalker+Associates, and Dr. Dilwyn P. Jones of Emral Ltd.
In addition to the outstanding conference program, there is a TableTop reception on Monday evening to allow attendees the opportunity to meet with industry suppliers in an informal and relaxed environment. Other networking opportunities are available throughout the conference.
An optional short course on Wrinkling, tapping the expertise of three top industry consultants, is available Wednesday.
For OEM Equipment Manufacturers, CEMA the Converting Equipment Manufacturers Association will hold their annual program on Risk Assesment and Liability for Manufacturers on Wednesday.

Wednesday Short Course:
A Practical Approach to Eliminate Web Wrinkling Timothy J Walker - TJWalker+Associates, Inc., Dilwyn Jones - Emral Ltd., Dr. David R. Roisum - Finishing Technologies
Wrinkles and creases are a major waste category in many converting operations. Wrinkling of paper webs causes an even worse problem – web breaks.
And wrinkles are on the rise. Many converting industry trends mean there are even more wrinkles coming your way. Are you…
- Moving to more polymer film products?
- Decreasing you web thickness?
- Increasing web width?
- Running faster and more integrated processes?
This half-day seminar will present the key concepts, including material, equipment, and process conditions that promote or reduce web wrinkling. Questions that will be answered in this seminar:
- What are the four mechanisms that create wrinkles?
- Which wrinkles are well modeled and what can the models teach us?
- How can wrinkles be prevented with web line geometry and standard cylindrical rollers?
- How does your web react to roller misalignment and diameter variations and how are these used to prevent wrinkles?
- How do special anti-wrinkle rollers work and when are they appropriate based on wrinkle cause, web tension, web width, and environment?
Registration for the Wednesday Short Course requires an additional fee.
